What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a long-lasting, realistic-looking solution for replacing missing teeth. This three-part system starts with a biocompatible titanium post that fuses with your jawbone, providing essential support and helping prevent bone loss while maintaining natural facial contours.

Attached to the implant is an abutment that securely connects to a custom-crafted restoration—whether a single crown, a dental bridge, or a full-arch prosthesis—to fully restore your smile’s function and appearance.

What to Expect from the Implant Process

1

Consult and Planning

We will start with a consultation to determine if dental implants are the right solution to your oral health needs. We will discuss your dental concerns, smile goals, and medical history. Once we’ve determined if you’re a candidate for dental implants, we will obtain digital diagnostics, take digital X-rays, and use our cone-beam computed tomography scan to analyze your bone structure, nerve tissue, and sinus cavities. With this detailed treatment plan, we can provide a cost estimate and schedule your surgical visit.

Implant Procedure

In addition to local anesthetics, we offer sedation to deliver a comfortable and anxiety-free procedure. We will make small incisions in your gums and place four dental implants in predetermined spots using our All-on-4® dental implant protocol. Once your implants are inserted, we will attach an abutment connector and suture your surgical site. The next day, we will place your temporary prosthesis so you can enjoy your new smile while your mouth heals!

Follow-Up Appointments

Aftercare is imperative to ensure your surgical area is properly healing and implant osseointegration (fusion) is progressing. The first year following surgery is critical for healing because your gums are vulnerable to infection and an inflammatory process called peri-implantitis.

During follow-up appointments, our Synergy Dental Implant Center team will assess your gums, implants, and surrounding teeth to look for evidence of traumatic occlusion, inflammation, bleeding, infection, pus, and/or accumulation of tartar or plaque.

Healing and Final Restorations

After implant surgery, we’ll provide guidelines that you need to follow to help ensure a complication-free recovery. When the osseointegration phase is complete, you will be ready to receive your permanent restoration created from high-quality zirconia!

This material offers superior strength and aesthetics, resists stains and fractures, and is wear-resistant. Then, you’ll return to our practice so we can check your prosthesis and ensure your mouth is free of plaque, tartar, and inflammation.
